Over thirty years ago Master Jae Hoon Shim arrived in the United States, coming a long way from South Korea with nothing more than his dreams and way of life to keep him going. With virtually no understanding of the English language and a few hundred US dollars in his pocket, Master Shim, a three-time National Judo Champion in Korea, was able to begin what is now known today as Shim's Tae Kwon Do and Judo. Through his years of dedication and disciplined training, he has been able to not only achieve 8 DAN status (8th Degree Black Belt) in both Tae Kwon Do and Judo, but also has positively impacted a multitude of students' lives throughout the years as well. By living his life in the arts and setting the perfect example of humbleness, dedidcation, integrity and perseverance, the Hakyo (school) has been able to develop students who have gone on to become leaders not only within the class but also in areas of medicine, law, business, schools and other various fields. Master Jae Hoon Shim truly is one of the last of his generation here in the States to bring a taste of tradition steeped in Korean culture which is built on honesty, integrity, loyalty and discipline.
But now after over thirty years of hard work and the passing on of the wisdom of a lifetime, Master Jae Hoon Shim has since decided that is was time for him to move on to another phase in his life. One in which he has entrusted the passing on and the complete preservation of his knowledge over to his son Master David Sang-Hyun Shim. Although the Hakyo has been relocated and both building and Master have changed, the traditions and lessons of a lifetime remain the same, deeply ingrained within the character of Master David Shim, trained by his father since the age of three.
By joining Shim's Tae Kwon Do and Judo and becoming a part of Korean tradition and culture, you will be able to experience the finer points of two very distinct forms of martial arts: one in which many various kicks and punches are involved as a form of self-defense (TaeKwon Do) and one which involves a variety of throws, redirection of one's momentum, and submision forms of grappling (Judo). It is a great opportunity for both individuals and families to benefit themselves by developing and sharpening their minds and bodies in a way that no other sport or fitness program can. So don't be afraid to broaden your horizons and discover the endless potential the human body is capable of, and come visit us today. The first step to an improved you...starts with you, and no one knows that better than the Shim Family.
